Hi,

I want to use Automator to backup my iTunes library to an external hard drive. Since I only want to add music that isn't already there, I was trying something along these lines: http://playlistmag.com/secrets/2006/05/juneplaylist/index.php

However, when doing this, it doesn't neatly add the songs in their respective folders (Artist-Album-Song), rather it just lumps all the song files together, meaning I've got quite a mess. Does anyone know how I could modify the workflow to automatically backup my music into folders (on the external)?

I like the websites' idea of creating an ical event to periodically do it for me, but if an automator/ical workflow won't work, I don't mind trying something else.

Thanks.

Sorry I don't have your solution, but this sounds very interesting and I'm bumping up the thread because I too could use such a program. I'll check out some possible solutions and hopefully get back to you if nobody else does first.

You could use a dedicated backup program to do this. I use lacie's silverkeeper software. It's nice and simple.

Otherwise unix (and by extension OS X) has a built in backup service called rsync. It's accessible through terminal and it is not too difficult to setup an applescript that uses it. There's also some graphical clients that can make setting it up easy.

Alright thanks, I'm gonna try silverkeeper to see how it is.
