I've been using some cd-rw discs for music and backing up my photos. What are the capabilities of rewriting and erasing stuff that I put on the discs since I can't seem to erase or rewrite anything I've already put on them? Thanks.

Not sure I really understand the question, but...

You can't just delete stuff from them on the fly...it's not like a hard drive in that regard. You can write and re-write, but to totally "erase" a disc, you have to use either something like Toast or Apple's Disk Utility.

Mac Rewrite

Hello,
I found this post and was having issues myself and thought I should ask for assistance. I recently purchased some 4G rewritable DVDs for data and image storage. I can do the initial burn, but am not sure how to add additional items to the DVD. I do not want to erase or distort the original burned data. How would I go about doing this?
Thank you.

You can't just add data to a DVD once it has been burned. You would have to erase the DVD, add the data, and then burn it again. Erasing is really not that difficult. You can use Toast or Disk Utility which is already on your Mac.

1. Insert DVD or CD

2. Open Disk Utility (In Your Utilities Folder)

3. On the side panel in Disk Utility, you CD/DVD Drive will be listed with a CD or DVD underneath it.

4. Single Click on the CD or DVD

5. A new window appears with 3 tabs; First Aid, Erase, and Restore. Select Erase.

6. Decide what option you want; Quick Erase or Completely. Quick Erase is a short process and Completely takes much longer but is more efficient. It is also necessary when you cant save to or read from the disc properly.

7. Click Erase

Your CD or DVD should be erased and ready for new data to be burned onto it.
