Hi all, I had some problems with my mac and today reinstalled mac os x.
Everthing seems fine and it's back to it's best.
I moved my home folder(50gb) on to an external hard drive.
can I play my music through itunes and view my photos through iphoto without moving all the files back on to my mac?

sure, you just have to change your iphoto and itunes library locations in preferences for each app.

hard disk failure?

got them working no problem, held down the alt key when opening the app and choose the library from my hard disk.
just thinking though is it better to have them on my mac as well as on the hard drive?
is there a chance the hard drive could fail(seagate 320g)
it's not a back up if I only have one copy!

There's always a chance of harddrives failing, so if you want to have your main library on your Mac, and the backup on the external... go for it.
