iPod using firewire cable with video iPod?

hi,
i've got a new 30G video iPod, but was wondering if its ok to use an iPod firewire cable so i can get faster downloads, and to charge it up when away from my powerbook.
Thought it was odd that they only come with a usb, i have a firewire cable but scared to use it!

any ideas?
