Is there a way of using Garageband to complile 50 mp3 files into one mp3 file, with the sound integrity maintained and linked seamlessly?

yeah, just join them end to end. If you are talking about joining songs to create one long song where there are no gaps so some albums sound better (like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon), you can join them in iTunes. When you have the CD in the drive (not imported), select the songs you want joined and go to Advanced - Join CD Tracks.
