using handbreak to copy dvd's to 3g iphone

looking to copy some of my original DVD's to be played on my 3g iphone
is handbreak the best way to go?

yup handbrake is the best. simply hit the iphone preset and youre good to go

handbreak states that it will take more that 6 hours to copy 1 x music DVD
is this around about normal time line?

I assume you mean music video DVD, DVD's of music don't require Handbrake.

The speed of handbrake depends on your computer. My computer (an 867 MHZ PB) can take up to 6 hours to compress a DVD with Handbrake. However, my wife's older MB takes between 30 and 50 minutes.
