Apple ID Using .hk email for Apple ID

My sister in law is from Hong Kong and has a yahoo.com.hk email address. She just bought an iPhone; if she set up the iPhone for US, will she have a problem using her .hk email for her “iCloud and App Store“. I am about 90 minutes away and haven’t been able to look at her phone but she can’t download anything from the App Store. i just want to rule that out.
