So a couple of days ago, they put out a new update for Yosemite beta and icloud drive started to work between my Macs and my iPhone (I think) but how do I access my files on my phone..I mean I know how to open a pages files but how could I take a look at a preview doc on my iPhone??

Afaik you'll have to go to the app that you want to edit the file and then use the Import/Open feature. There you should be able to browse iCloud drive if it was implemented into the app. Feels like backwards a bit. Other than that use a third party browser app, but I haven't seen a decent one yet that can open files for editing.
That's the way I undrestand how it works...

Documents 5 by Readdle is pretty decent, imo.
