I setup my @mac.com ID a few years ago, but never really liked the username I chose. A couple of years ago I started using mobile me more and created an email alias.
I setup my iPhone, iPad and Mail to receive and send email via the alias. I used information from a post in macrumors to configure this on iOS; essentially the Mac.com user name was used as credentials but the alias email address was the username.
So in summary I have username@mac.com and alias@me.com and always use the alias.
Since migrating to iCloud I am now getting the following situation.
If I send an email to my alias I get 2 copies of the email.
If I send an email to the actual real username email address I only get one copy.
Prior to iCloud I would only get one copy.
My iCloud settings on iOS is configured using username@mac.com. I have added an additional email account (imap) for the alias. I can set the Mail feature of iCloud off and this suppresses retrieval of one copy of the email, but it's still there and downloads if I enable Mail for the iCloud account under the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings.
I think I need to have the additional Mail account for my alias to allow me to send using the alias.
Does someone know how to configure iOS for this situation?
Thanks
Eric
