Using Imac Internals

My 2008 Imac screen is busted. Is there anyway that i can take out all the internals, put them in a case, and hook up a different monitor to this thing? I really dont want to spend 700 bucks when i could spend 300.

Did you check out ebay at all for replacement screens / glass panels? You could potentially find replacements for around $300 or less (depending upon 20" vs 24", if glass panel is damage, if you want used or new, etc).

Does it work if you hook it up now to an external display? If so, I'd just put an external display in front of the iMac and let it go at that.
