Okay, I’m trying to use the feature of Smart Photo Cutout introduced in iOS 16, but I don’t know how to actually use it natively, without the need of third party apps, just by using the photos app.

1) So, here’s the thing. I touch the person/animal until it is highlighted, then I touch on copy. Now that I have copied it I what to paste it onto a different background, like a solid color for instance. I know it can look awkward but it’s just to learn how to use it.

2) Another problem I’m having is, if I don’t want to cutting out the person/animal but rather just use an “intelligent eraser” to remove a dental clinic poster from a photo that’s otherwise really good, can I do it without using any Google (snapseed) or subscription-based software?

Thank you!

1) You can't do this in Photos but I think you can fudge it in Files, you can "paste" the photo subject you copied into a PDF that has the background colour you want, it'll go on as another layer / annotation. You might be able to paste it into Notes as well.

2) You can't do this natively.

All in all, what I'm trying to say is that if you want to do this properly on your iOS device then you'll need a third party app. Pixelmator for iOS is very good and not unreasonably priced for what it does. I am sure there are other apps too.

Actually, I own Photomator for iPhone, because I bought it when it was still a one time purchase. I think I can also use it on my iPad Pro. However, to use it on my Mac I should switch to the subscription and I’m not willing to, but that’s another topic.

As for Pixermator, I don’t own the iPhone app, but I do own Pixelmator Pro for Mac.

Do you think Pixelmator for iPhone, which is priced at 9,99€ without subscription -yet- is worth the price, especially owning Photomator for iOS and Pixelmator Pro for macOS?

And last but not least, would you buy Affinity Photo for iOS for this purpose?

I haven't tried Affinity Photo but I am a big fan of Pixelmator both on the Mac and on iPhone... and it's a one-time purchase as well. The iPhone version doesn't get super-frequent updates (not like the Mac version) but it certainly hasn't been abandoned (as I was worried about when Photomator for iOS came out). I think it's universal so works on the iPad as well.

Okay then I’ll try Photomator (iOS) and Pixelmator Pro (macOS) and if none of them do what I need, which is a simple smart eraser, then I’ll get the regular Pixelmator for iOS. Many thanks!
