I’ve recently had to start using windows for work, just a few niche analysis apps that require a .NET framework that won’t work in the land of fruit. I still use my iPad Air next to it as a digital notepad, task management, notes, some email etc, just love my iPad, hence why I also use it at work.

Thing is, I get confused between iPad and windows shortcuts, haven’t used windows properly since 2006, still have that Apple muscle memory. For those of you with a similar setup, do you switch between the two (cmd/ctrl dilemma), or did you remap, or something entirely different?

My 12.9 Pro and docked Win10 laptop sit next to each other and I just switch between the two - not just logically, but also with my Logitech keyboard & mouse. I don't find it a problem but I've been a Windows user since its inception (and MS-DOS before that).

Same. In fact for me it took some time to learn the iOS shortcuts as I know in my heart the Windows ones. Now I kind of switch between the two on subconscious level. Maybe it helps me that I use different keyboards. I have good mucsle and spatial memory and would associate shortcuts also with the different keyboards.

While I don't switched between the OP's two specific "worlds", I do switch between OSs (Win10 & macOS) frequently, having done so for several decades, I feel the OP's "pain". I've come to live with the shortcut confusion.

This has become worse in recent months as, for medical reasons, my wife & I have temporarily relocated and I have to do much of my "day job" work remotely. This has added a new set of keyboard issues as my remote work is done using Windows 10 machine in Houston to remotely control an iMac back at the gallery in Key West. The remote software maps the Mac-specific keys to various keys on my Win keyboard leaving some differences that disturb the muscle memeory even when I get my antique brain to "think Mac". I'm a heavy keyboard shortcut user and depending on the task, I run both Ps and Lr on both my local Win10 machine and remotely on the iMac, thus confusion reigns. Even when I'm back in KW and using the iMac natively I'll just be back to working with macOS for my primary tasks and a "satellite" Win10 machine for other tools.

I've lived with this "confusion" for a long time. I used to be part of a software development team and worked with 3-4 machines, as mix of Macs and Windows PCs running various versions of their OSs and ran our software and several tools on all the machines, switching back and forth between them constantly. I was younger then and could handle it reasonably well.

Thanks for everyone’s input! I wish I could cover all my use bases with iPadOS, but that’s not possible for now. Will just bite the bullet and use both OS’s in parallel, and try and do as much with my iPad.

Good idea with the multiple Keyboards. I was strongly considering getting a Logitech K380 to rule them all, might try the magic keyboard cover and regular external keyboard for the laptop. It’s all trial and error....

Another idea popped into my mind. In Settings under General/Keyboards/Hardware keyboards you can reconfigure some function keys. I switched the places of Ctrl and Command and deactivated the option for Caps Lock to change languages. This way the iPad keyboard behaves the same way as my Windows laptop keyboard.
