I am sure there is an easier way, but I am stuck. I upgraded my wife's iPhone 2G to a 3GS. She backed up, on her iBook (I know she needs a new laptop) plugged in the new iPhone, and she has been up and running ever since. I have a MacBook with which I sync my own 3GS. I want to use the old iPhone as an ipod touch, with my apps, music, etc. It won't let me erase an connect to my iTunes.

    1. Should I restore? Will this option jack up my syncing of my 3GS?
    2. Should I erase and they try to sync with my MacBook?

    Please Advise.

    Aloha,
    FUDGE!

So, when you connect the 2G to your computer, it does not say it is synced with a different library then asks you if you want to replace all the data with yours?

    1. Should I restore? You could, but I would try this second. Will this option jack up my syncing of my 3GS? No
    2. Should I erase and they try to sync with my MacBook? I would try this first.

so if I connect to my macbook, and restore, it will erase the 2G iphone, and allow me to put my apps, music, etc onto the phone. Will it not try to activate the phone-there is no sim in the phone.
I just don't want my current 3gs to get messed up

    Forget about the 3GS

Whatever you do, it shouldn't effect the 3GS, unless you try to restore the 3GS using a backup of the 3G. But don't let that scary, restore to original settings, and build from ground up.

Thanks for you help. I turned off the sync applications, and then the phone started downloading all the music/movies I wanted on that phone. Now the "back up" iPhone is an ipod touch. I then re-synced with the apps I wanted, and bingo, all is well.

    Thanks again.
