My 2g iPhone recently took a nasty fall and now has a smashed and unusable screen. The internals of it work fine, and I was wondering if I could use it only as a hard drive.

I have transferred service to a new 3g, so this one no longer functions as anything useful. The screen does not respond to touch so using a program on the phone like Airshare isn't an option.

Is there a way to completely erase the operating system and all files on the phone and make it show up just like any other flash drive/hard disk?

It shows up in iTunes and acts just like an iphone. It doesn't show up on the desktop or anywhere else like disk utility. How would I go about using it as a hard drive?

There are various apps, some free, that allows the iPhone to serve as an external. Most of these apps require an ad hoc wifi network in order to transfer data.

If you erase the OS, it can't be used in any capacity at all because it cant even boot up, not unlike staying in DFU mode permanently.
