So far I have been using the latest public version of iTunes in Mojave to synch audiobooks onto my iOS 12 iPhone. Does anybody know what will happen if I install the current iOS 13 beta on the iPhone, while keeping Mojave on the MacBook? Will they still be able to interact, or will I also need to install a beta of Catalina for this to work? Thank you all.

I can connect my iOS 13 device to iTunes 12.6.5 with proper mobiledevice package installed (from Xcode), all under High Sierra. So, yeah. Obviously you can. The worst case is to install Xcode beta.

That one is more related to syncing music with iCloud Music Library enabled. If OP does not have Apple Music, he is fine.

Just posted my experiences on the linked thread. Music related, but don't have Apple Music.

Thanks everybody, I think I will just sit the whole beta out, waiting for the real deal in September. :)

Could not resist and ended up installing Public Beta 5 on all my iOS devices. :)Great fun and none of my loaded under iOS 12 books got lost, so I should have enough until the official Catalina release in the autumn. However, as expected, iTunes in Mojave no longer sees my iOS 13 devices when I plug them in.

Interesting. My Mac running high Sierra with iTunes 12.6.5 can see my iPhone and iPad running iOS 13. It just does not have proper device image in iTunes, but otherwise sync works fine.

Hmm, I might try it again over the weekend then. Yesterday, when I plugged iPhone and iPad with PB5 installed on both, I did not notice any reaction neither on iTunes, nor on the devices. Will update you if I manage to get them to see each other.

Update: I was able to install iOS 13 GM via regular iTunes in Mojave after a small automatic iTunes update. Since then Apple also released an updated iTunes version for Windows, so everybody should be fine now.

I was wondering if there will be any limitations besides iTunes maybe, if I today install IOS 13 (if it is released officially today) to my IOS gear but I still have Mojave in my MacBook Pro? Will there be problems with syncing or handoff with apps like Messages, Calendar or FaceTime between the different devices?
I have iPhone and Apple Watch 3 linked to the same iCloud account as my MBP and I would very much like that they still work without problems until Catalina will be released, even I update those to IOS 13 today.

What do you mean by mobiledevice package? I have a similar setup (High Sierra, iTunes 12.6.5). Does iTunes not recognize iOS 13 devices otherwise?

iTunes does recognise the device, but needs proper software support, which is provided by Xcode during beta. The mobiledevice package I am talking about is the necessary software existed in Xcode beta to update iTunes and support newer devices.

I can’t update to iOS 13 with iTunes in Mojave 10.14.6, it says that I have to update the softwsre in order to be able to update the iPhone to iOS 13 (iTunes is version 12.9.5.5) any ideas?

Does iTunes still recognize the iPhone with the GM/official release? And recognize means you can sync the iPhone without problem?
Maybe I should just update iTunes, although I actually don't want... :(

When I plugged phone in after the update I got a box on my Mac saying I needed a software update even though on latest version of iTunes - after update phone appeared in iTunes again

Yes it does. No need to update iTunes. Just update that small software package until one iOS version finally breaks compatibility with older iTunes.
