Is there a good way to set Pages and Keynote to save f. ex. .doc and .ppt files without having to export them as new copies? Basically what I am looking for is a way to use iWork primarily with these file types. My teachers only use these and I need a good way to be able to open and change them without having to create a .pages or .keynote copy every time I work with a .doc.

I don't know of a way to do this either - however, I don't use iWork much anymore, having switched my primary workflow to the free OpenOffice.org from Oracle. This software can do what you want; you just have to change a few settings in the preferences, and turn off the warning about saving in non-native formats.

You really should get yourself a Home and Student Edition of Microsoft Office. On the streets, it costs about the same as iWork but it will be more useful for --your-- purposes. While Pages can open Microsoft file formats, it's not 100% perfect and it quite often screws up the formatting of the documents. I also don't think that you can set its default file format to Microsoft Word. The file support was designed to migrate you -to- iWork, not away from it.
