I bought an M1 Mac Mini and have been using for a few days. I love everything about it... except that my Dell 19.5" 1600x900 monitor looks so bad with MacOS. Text is uncomfortably blurry and pixelated. Even the desktop wallpapers look pretty terrible.

I have a few choices.

1. Put up with the blurry text and poor viewing experience until I can afford the LG Ultrafine 4K monitor (don't want anything larger than 24") or wait for the rumored 24" 4.5K display LG is working on. That could be a long wait.

2. Buy a refurbished 2019 4K 21.5 iMac (Intel i3) for $1,169 CAD. I already bought an Apple keyboard for $120 last month, so that would be a waste.

3. Return the Mac Mini ($829 CAD) for a base model Macbook Air ($1,169) and use the Air's screen as my primary display.

Does anyone else do this? The clarity and quality of display is lightyears beyond my current Dell. But 'd be moving from 19.5" to 13.3". I actually prefer small monitors, but 13.3" might be pushing it too far.

I did for a year with my 2015 MBA, which had a lesser quality screen than the new ones. With a RainDesign mStand and Macally USB mouse and keyboard combo, it did fine as a desktop replacement. I wrote most of a novel and kept a blog going that way. For visual things like video/photo editing, graphic design, etc. it would have been too small.

I mainly use my PC for web browsing, YouTube, office docs, etc. Used 95% of the time for entertainment. I have no TV.

The current setup is right on the border of being too unpleasant with the blurriness.

Might return the Mini, get the Air and try it out. If I don't like it, I can always return it too.
