Tiger is 6 years old now, I just want to get your two cents on whether you think Tiger is still a viable and usable operating system in 2011. The support for current applications is bad now but the old versions of everything are good, right? :p

I still use Tiger (I have to, I only have an iMac G3) and I think it's still pretty good, It's sort of like the Windows XP of Mac OS X. But I have to say, it runs really well considering I only have 320MB RAM and a 500MHz processor, although it does have it's laggy moments...
This doesn't have anything to do with this topic, but i'm still sort of new to Mac OS, and i don't know how to uninstall a program :/

Sold my Uncle a iMac G5 with Tiger on it. It screams. Runs Safari 4.something with no problems. He can do his word processing, web browsery and his iTunesery with no issues at all.

Outperforms my Lion MBA at times. Impressive machine and OS, still more than capable of catering for the majority of people's use. The only issue he finds is that lack of Apps.

Quite the inverse! There are TONS of apps out there for Tiger and PPC. In fact, one of the reasons I switched back from Snow Leopard on Intel to Tiger on PPC was to get access to some of my favorite older apps that simply weren't available any more for Intel Macs.

There are definitely newer versions of many programs that simply are not supported on Tiger/PPC, that is true, but there are plenty of apps for everything you could possibly need that are supported on Tiger/PPC.

Oddly, iTunes is really the sole exception in my experience. I have to keep a dual boot of Leopard/PPC just for iTunes. Other than that, I have no issues! My Applications folder is bulging!

My family just upgraded from an iMac G5 2.1ghz machine running Mac OS X Tiger this year.

My dad gave it to my brothers and they still use it regularly for web browsing, iTunes, and Microsoft Office. It still does it's job.

I would say yes, it is still a viable OS unless there are specific new applications you need.

OS X 10.4.11 On G4 + 2GB RAM

Could someone tell me what version of TOR I could install on 10.4.11? Is there a TOR Browser Bundle that runs off usb stick for 10.4.11? I have been looking on the TOR Site but get confused by updates and actual packages.
Does tiger have inherit kernel limitations that restrict setting up socks proxy, sand box, fire wall on it for more secure internet browsing in addition to Private Browsing, resetting browser and not keeping browsing history, I don't even use private email client- don't need it... instead I use free web mail account...lol
How different is Mac OS File structure - Darwin from BSD?
Thank You

Some apps install other little files elsewhere that dragging the app to the trash doesn't remove. http://freemacsoft.net/ has Appcleaner (Free) which helps get rid of everything associated with the app.

Not really. In most cases, app removal software like AppCleaner doesn't do a thorough job of finding and removing files/folders related to deleted apps. For more information, read this. If you just want to delete the app, drag the .app file to the trash. No other software needed. If you want to completely remove all associated files/folders, no removal apps will do the job.

The most effective method for complete app removal is manual deletion:
