Hey there...last week my iphone 'mail' suddenly started being able to get my hotmail...so since then ive tried to use Mail.app on my imac to get my hotmail but it is not working....seems pretty straight forward but it is not working...

i need a 3rd party app to use Mail.app for hotmail? that sucks!

No you dont need to pay for pop3 support with hotmail. A while back they made pop3 available for everyone. Here is how you set it up:

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Ive been using it for more than a year and it works flawlessly.

MacOS X 10.4.1? You need to spend some serious time in Software Update. It will update you to MacOS X 10.4.11 and take you from Safari 2 to Safari 4 and install numerous recommended bug fixes and security updates.
