Yea, gmail is freakishly easy to set up. You put in your address and your password and click OK. Poof, you are done. All the in/out servers are already in Mail, so you don't even have to do that.
Ok, you also have to enable POP or IMAP in gmail, but that is it. I personally prefer POP since IMAP was giving me issues (folder syncing as well as saying that i had sent an email 3-7 times even though I had pressed send once).
Yeah, I do see your point. MacFreePOPs works for me, but the accounts I use it for are not mission critical (not to mention that my BlackBerry receives all of them also). So there are days when, for mysterious reasons, Hotmail won't get new mail. And then an hour later or the next day, it'll be fine. I can put up with that fine because these aren't my primary accounts, but...
