I need to monitor sleep sessions at different times during the same day, but the sleep schedule doesn’t seem to allow multiple sleep schedules for the same day.
I read that it’s easier to avoid using sleep scheduling and just start a sleep session manually when you are going to sleep, but I’m not sure how to do this.
If I turn off sleep scheduling, how do I initiate a sleep monitoring session manually before going to bed?
I have the series 9 on watch os 10.

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, however as I work various shifts and can't use the sleep schedule, I manually enable it by going to control centre with the side button then tapping on the focus button and selecting sleep.
I then do the reverse when I get up and it seems to work as intended? Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks. Do you also have any sleep schedules turned on when you do this?
I’m not sure what other settings should be if I just want to be able to turn on a sleep monitoring when I want to rather than having a schedule.

No I have the schedule set to off. I used to have it on when working a regular Monday to Friday, however disabled it when I changed role and now only activate it through the control centre each night. I believe you can have both (i/e a schedule for 2200/0700 sleep/wake time and manually enable it for afternoon siestas). I also enable the theatre mode to stop blinding myself at 2am!

Thanks. Excuse my ignorance, but are you saying that turning on the sleep icon in control center from the little moon symbol to the sleep symbol initiates sleep monitoring until I turn it off again, or do I need to set any other options as well?
Will it record my sleep data like the sleep schedules do?
Does the manual mode require it to last for at least 4 hours before it saves the sleep data, or will I see any info after a short two hour nap?

The answer to your first question is yes, setting sleep on the AW will turn sleep mode on. Awhile I have a sleeps schedule, I always tie. It on/off that method.
As for all your other questions, why not try it out and the. Come back here and let us know?

Sleep tracking never works for me during the day, baffles me why it doesn’t.

Tracking always works during the night though, no schedule just manually turning on Sleep focus.

Might get “fixed” with watchOS 11 according to yesterday’s article re nap tracking

Thanks. I have been trying out several of the options to control the time the watch starts and stops a sleep cycle and I still can’t figure out how each option works with the others.
i can start a sleep cycle but the watch seems to decide when to go out of it in the morning, and a nap time of at least 4 hours didn’t show the sleep stages, just a band that said sleep.
Since it’s a new purchase, I think I’m going to call the complimentary apple care offer and ask them how the thing works and what to do if I just want to set it on or off whenever I want and have it record the sleep stages of any length nap as well as nighttime sleep.

In the health app on the iPhone, you can edit the sleep schedule. I just edit the schedule from there when I'm going to sleep earlier or later than usual. You can make the change permanent, or just change it for a day.

Unfortunately, Apple's sleep monitoring isn't so good at picking up naps. I hope this changes with the next OS, but you should consider looking into 3rd party sleep tracking apps if you need to track naps.
