Ive already purchased microsoft office standalone for my rMBP...can i use that purchase to use office on the iPad Pro?

I think i purchased the home version

Standalone Office doesn't include a licence for mobile devices IIRC. However, if your iPad is a 9.7 (not 10.5 or 12.9), you get full featured office functionality for free. If you have one of the larger iPads you need an office 365 subscription.

The reason for this is Microsoft don't charge a licence fee for devices under a 10" screen

You need an Office 365 subscription to run Office on the iPad Pro. MS has a 10" form factor cutoff meaning if you used a 9.7 iPad you didn't need Office 365, but the IPP is larger so you're SOL
