Hey guys i have an old IMac just sitting around the house and i was thinking of using it as a second display for my current Imac, the problem is that the old one features a old DisplayPort while the new one has Thunderbolt. Aka these two:

So my question is what kind of cable do i need to connect the two.

    Thanks !

Only certain model iMacs are capable of using the Mini DisplayPort as an input jack for use as an external display. Since this Mac does not have Thunderbolt, that means it would need to be a 27" iMac, either a Late-2009 or Mid-2010 model. If that is what you have, then you can use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, and on the old Mac press Command-F2 to enter Target Display Mode. More info here.

If your old Mac does not happen to be that exact model, then you're not going to be able to do this via display cable. But, there are some software solutions. Air Display, Wi Display, vtDisplay, ScreenRecycler, etc.
