I would prefer to use Pages rather than Word, but I work in a Microsoft environment where everyone uses Word, and where several people often work on the same documents together.

Is there anyone here in the same situation who has tips to share? Is it relatively straight forward to convert between Word and Pages (when formatting is basic)? Or should I just stick with Word?

I've tried but eventually gave up. It's just easier to stick with Word if you are sharing these documents with others who use Word exclusively.

My 2 cents!

^ liya is right. Pages and Word don't work well together. I'm fortunate to be in an environment where I can just use whatever I want; I hate Office (except Excel). I use Pages, but I'm transitioning to TextWrangler + LaTeX (for git support) once I figure out how to do MLA formatting in it.

I agreed with both above. I've tried to move to Pages where all my colleagues use word and it's not been something I've been able to stick with.

I work on large documents, with complex formatting and numbering. I find all of these get messed up on import to Pages . Also I always get font errors and macro problems.

Therefore unless you are working on something really basic I would find some way to use Word. If you do collaboration on documents, maybe give Word 365 Online a go as I find that very flexible and useful.

I'm resigned to the use of Windows in a VM using VMWare with Office installed there. That's the only way I can do what I need with all the Office specific stuff for work. I also have other programs that I use for work that's only available on Windows.

I tried for a short period of time, but between the feature differences, and compatibility issues, I gave up the ghost. Page (and apple's other iWork apps) just cannot compare to MS Office.

I use MS Office 2013 on my rMBP. I either boot into windows or fire up VMware fusion. I no longer have any issues where the document gets reformatted when I edit it.

Thanks so much for all the input, much appreciated. The responses are pretty unanimous so I guess I'll just stick to Word!
