hi guys, this doesn't bug me too much but i was just curious....

on my macbook, lets say im usin safari and am watchin a live rock vid on you tube. Whenever I switch onto ichat to text people, i notice the video displayed on safari starts laggin but once i click on the safari window it plays perfectly.

I'm a new switcher and just curious to know if this is normal, since i dont think it happens with firefox. Firefox is cool, but I enjoy using safari as well as ichat, mail, and all of the awsome apps that come with osx.

Macs Rule!:D

I've seen this happen on stuff other than flash too.
I think it gets laggy if it isn't the frontmost app.

this is because the video is a flash movie

flash sucks on mac and gets laggy if it isn't the frontmost window

Actually, it's kind of a feature because imbedded Flash content can get fairly CPU intensive. According to one of the Flash developers, Safari deliberately cuts the frame rate to about 4/sec for Flash content when Safari isn't in front in order to preserve battery life on the 'books and keep the fans quiet. Generally, the system tries to prevent Flash from hogging the CPU while the browser is in the background.

Lots of technobabble in the link about timing threads and so on for those so inclined.
