iPod Using Shuffle as USB Drive

i have the first gen 512 mb ipod shuffle and i used to be able to enable it to be used as a usb flash drive but i cant find the option anymore on my powerbook. i have the latest mac osx and the latest itunes. any help is welcome.

When you plug the iPod in, iTunes comes up with the iPod page.
On there, there should be a tick box for "Enable Disk mode".

Is that checked?

under ipod settings there is no box for that.
