Using the Apple Bi-directional 3.5mm<->lightning cable for stereo Mac line-in?

For the AirPods Max, this $35 bi-directional Apple cable can be used to plug in to a 3.5mm headphone jack.

I assume this cable must have an inline analog-digital converter? If so, I wonder if I can use it with a lightning<->USB-C adapter to have stereo line-in to my M2 Macbook Air?
