Im a UK Apple fan on the iPhone Upgrade Program (iUP), which just started in the UK this year with the iPhone 7.

I am keen to know how I can use the iUP to pre-order the iPhone Pro (or whatever's its named) as soon as pre-orders go live. I wondered if anyone can describe how this process will likely work so that I can act swiftly and not spend precious minutes trying to work out what the hell im doing when it goes live!

I'll be making my 11th payment on October 1st meaning I'm one payment short when pre-orders go live, however I checked my eligibility today via the Apple website and saw that it will let me upgrade today if I make a payment covering the difference to my 11th payment. Im happy to make this payment but wonder if this might complicated the process more.

Do people on the iUP have there own route to ordering? Should I just reserve a phone for in store pick up and let them know I'm on the iUP when I go to collect it?

Any wisdom gratefully received. Thanks.

I'm not sure about UK but in the US, from reports from last year, you can make the last payment during the order process for the new iPhone. That's probably the best thing to do.

Thanks for the tip.

Is that upgrade process through a specific 'special route' for people on the iUP or part of the normal process? I was wondering if Apple sent an email with a special link for iUP users to upgrade on a iUP specific web page? Or is that wishful thinking??!!

I never buy from the Apple store. You will get it later Its best to buy it from a third party seller. Like a big electronics store. I got my airpods a month earlier that way. They always make misstakes by selling it earlier lol

I'm hoping as soon as pre orders go live there will be a link to sign in, that way they can tell you are on the upgrade program and get priority.

Those that think IUP customers get special priority over other channels are deluded.

Yes, there will be an allotment of phones for the IUP segment only, but if you think that IUP customers will get their phones first to the exclusion of all others...well, you got another thing coming.

In the US, opposite experience for me.

Ordered online from Apple Store and I had my iPhone 6 Plus 1-2 weeks earlier than Apple's delivery estimate (I think I got it 1 week after street date). Meanwhile, a lot of people who ordered from AT&T, Verizon or big box stores were seeing their shipping dates getting delayed further and further.

Yep I change my phone every year for the flagship model and pay hard cash up front for it so I do t see why IUP customers paying instalments should get priority

Those that think IUP customers get special priority over other channels are deluded.

Why would IUP even get allocations? Imho, first come, first serve is probably fairest for everyone.

I'm in the US. So when it's 3am and I go to place my preorder, where do I go? Do I go to the normal Apple Store website/app? Or do I need to go to the iPhone Upgrade Program page and login/order from there?
The Apple Store app is usually the best method to use. I've found the website to be more iffy.

So you can use the Apple Store app to make the purchase through the IUP? How does it work?
Normal order process? It gives you the different options when you go to the payment screen (after you've selected the model, color, capacity and carrier).

The best way to Preorder. https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s-it-possible-unlocked.2063742/#post-24938892

#1. Use The App of your choice Apple Store App or Best Buy App or any Carrier App. Because the vast majority of people will scramble to websites and crash them.
#2. If possible use an Apple device like an iPad while using the Apple Store App. Apple severs give this traffic an advantage.
#3. Have all your information credit card info address etc filled out way ahead of time.
#4. Make a purchase in advance that way you know all is working.
#5. Inform your credit card or Bank that you will be making a $1,000+ Purchase at Midnight so it doesn't get flagged or unauthorized as possible fraud. And they won't finalize the purchase until you call in by then it's too late.
#6. Have an extra item in your cart. Buy a cable or headphones just an extra bs item that sets your traffic apart from all the millions trying to buy 1 Phone. You will be prioritized possibly and check out faster. You can always return the bs filler item later.
#7. You have exactly 20 seconds to buy. If you want a Black 64GB At&t model or a White 128GB Verizon model which everyone you put in your cart first there's No going back or changing your mind. We have all had items in our cart only to go back and then that item is no longer available. You get one chance that's it.
#8. Pay In Full, don't bother trying to Pick a Contract or Pick a Plan you can always change that Later at the store once you have the Phone in hand. Just pick the right Carrier and GB size and checkout.
#9. Eligible Upgrade. IMO and likely carriers don't like people on eligible upgrades I've seen and experienced too many glitches caused on purpose when trying to go through Eligible Upgrades I think Carriers glitch out or causes errors on purpose because what they really want are new Subscribers. Again even if it an eligible upgrade just follow step #8. You can always change things at the store.
#10. You must be Logged in well in advance don't think you can Log in at 12:00 you have to have all your information in and ready Days in advance. Then Log On to your App of choice maybe even multiple ones at least by 11pm.

I'd rather buy it directly from Apple Store then buying from third party vendors. Apple doesn't charge you a restock fee while some third party can. Apple Returns are easy and no questions asked. Some third party may ask about returns.

So at the payment screen you can say that you're currently in the IUP and are upgrading to the next phone? I just signed up for IUP with the iPhone 7 Plus so I haven't upgraded using the program before.

Yep, I believe so. I suggest trying the process now so you're familiar with it and just cancel when you get to the point where you actually need to enter your IUP info.

So I'm also on the Apple Upgrade Program and have been since September last year. I just went through the process of "upgrading" using the Apple Store App.

I went through the various screens to the point where it says:

"Good news. You're eligible to apply for a new iPhone.*

Visit your local Apple Store to upgrade to a new iPhone.

The iPhone you trade in at the Apple Store must be in good working condition. If it's damaged, you may be subject to an excess fee.

*As part of the Apple Upgrade Program, you will have to pay a £49 upfront fee, which will be deducted from the total cost. Subject to credit check approval at the Apple Store."

So with that, I'm going to assume that we're going to just have to do the reservation thing again and then indicate that we're upgrading and then show them the phone, do the check, etc....

2 questions:

When you take your current phone in to upgrade, are you expected to handover the headphones and power cable etc? (Be good to keep them for spares if I can!).

Also, just to clarify, do you have to indicate you're in the iUP programme during ordering on the app or do you just reserve a phone for collection at a store and sort the rest when you go to collect it? I figure knowing what to expect might help me order speedily!

Won't be ordering the 8 in the morning though, X all the way!
