Using the mouse on installation

Hi all,

I've just installed Lion on my external hard drive. It all went well until it came to the introduction and selecting a language; my mouse moves but it doesn't respond to clicking! The only option I have is to press cmd+q to exit and shut down!

Have I gone wrong somewhere?
