Hello, I’m looking to have dual drives in my Mid-2011 iMac 21.5" swapping the Optical Drive with the WD Blue SSD in place. I’m wondering if it’s a straight swap using the same SATA cable from the Optical?

Thanks!

No,

You can use adapter cables, or caddies like the OWC one:

If you don't need the kit, you can get just the caddy cheaper here:

On both 2011 iMacs, the SATA speed of the hard drive is 6Gbps and the optical drive speed is 3Gbps so there may be a slower speed on an SSD installed in the optical drive position.

Why dont you just use the extra 6Gbps SATA port.
A few $ for some cables (power splitter /SATA data) and double sided tape.
It's what I do and once the screen is on it looks pretty 😉
