Using the USB ports on a surge protector for charging?

I want to get a surge protector that also has USB ports on it that I can use for my iPhone and iPad. What should I look for, if anything, to check comparability with Apple's charging standards, etc.?

They charge quite slowly from the models I know; they give out only 2.0A whereas your iPad and iPhone usually use 2.4A
