I am a performing DJ that wants to run Serato (a program that assists DJing) on one Mac mini and I want to run Ableton Live (a different program that can be used for DJing) on a separate computer to avoid any crashing problems. By using two dedicated computers I can avoid the situation when using one computer that could result in the Mac crashing. Also I can have access to both programs at the same time.
What I am hoping to do is to split my monitor and have both minis sharing that screen. I have seen references to "split screen" but that would require one computer to be the master and then I am back to possible crashing problems on that computer. The situation may require two separate monitors. Any ideas?

You can use two different entries on the monitor to connect each mini and then simply switch the input on the monitor. Or, depending on how you connect the monitor, you get a splitter and switch on this between both minis.

You can use a monitor like the Dell 3219Q which has a built-in KVM switch.

Multitask efficiently: Picture-In-Picture (PIP) and Picture-By-Picture (PBP) features make it easy for you to view content from two different computer sources simultaneously.

Simple manageability: Switch between applications from two PCs on your screen and work on the content using only one keyboard and mouse with the convenient Keyboard, Video and Mouse (KVM) feature.

I am not quite sure what you ask. I think it will be no problem showing to computers side by side on most monitors. If you select a dobbelt-width model like 32:9 format, I think most will support mulitview.

But what would the benefit be over two monitors. Is it because you want to share keyboard+mouse/trackpad? Then it is a bit more tricky. You need either:
- wired keyboard+mouse going through a switchbox
- BT-keyboard+mouse which can pair multi computers
- an app which can share keyboard+mouse over network (https://alternativeto.net/software/sharemouse/?platform=mac)
first two solutions require manual switch an honestly I think two keyboard + two mouse is faster. Last option still leaves you vulnerable to crashes, so you might as well run both apps on the same machine.

The Dell monitor I linked to above has a built-in KVM switch so you can share a keyboard and mouse. You can use a wireless keyboard and mouse by plugging the wireless receiver into the USB port of the KVM switch or monitor.
