My friend's mid 2007 macbook's battery has to be replaced and it doesn't get charged at all. Instead, its getting heated up badly. The local apple dealer is asking for about 200 USD for a battery so my friend is planning to buy it online instead. My question is, is it ok to remove the battery and use the mac with the charger attached (if thats possible) because of the heating problem?

Yes it is fine...
I have three almost new batteries for his model
let me know if I can give you a better price!

It's fine to use without a battery just know that the processors will run at a slower speed, some kind of safe mode to protect the processors if the power is disconnected.
