Utility for scanning directly to a printer?

Is there any utility that will scan directly to a printer in one pass, as a kind of photocopying function?

That is the sort of thing you expect on the CD included with your scanner.

Unfortunately, the Epson software was horrible and unstable - in fact, it is no longer on their site, they just tell you to use OSX drivers.

VueScan might do it, but there my technophobe dad (who this is for) will completely freak if I tell him he has to spend more money on software...

I know it's taken me a long time to reply but I forgot and now the issue has become critical again!

Can anyone help? I'd of thought this was an obvious thing but no-one seems to do a simple photocopier program... 🙁
