Is there any way I can speed up my 2015 imac (Mojave 10.14.6) to utilize my new 1.5 gb internet service ?..would a 2.5gb adapter work or am I simply stuck to the current max speed as shown ? I tested a mac mini with 10gb ethernet and it ran very near the 1.5gbps service

The 2015 iMac has Gigabit Ethernet, so the speed you are getting sounds reasonable for that, assuming you are using a wired connection.

To utilize the full speed of your internet, a 2.5Gbps Ethernet adapter should work as long as you have the proper networking equipment.

Just curious, what are you intending to use your almost 1.5Gbps internet for on your Mac?

Then I'll order a 2.5gb dongle and give it a go...I mostly use it for downloading large files of construction drawings and documents

I found this one quickly on Amazon. The reviews from Mac owners seem overall positive. According to the description, works with MacOS 10.7 and up, and there is a reviewer that says that it works under Ventura, so that should cover you for Mojave and beyond if you want to update your OS:

Did you have to download any drivers? I'm running Big Sur 11.7.2, is this adapter plug and play? My speedtest only shows 950 mb on a Plugable 2.5 adapter

Is the link speed 2.5Gbps on the other end, meaning the router or whatever Mac is plugged into?

Yes good question...my internet service is 1.5 and it hits it as shown in my screen shot

Yeah, it looks like you have a router/modem that has 2.5Gbps, allowing for the higher download speed, but @87grand may not have a 2.5Gbps capable network.

I am not 100% sure about this, but I don't think all 10Gbps devices support 2.5Gbps link speeds, so if the router has a 10Gbps port, there could be a chance that the router doesn't support link speeds between 1Gbps and 10Gbps.
