utoh is my screen going?

Over the last week i see this very occasionally, in fact only 3 times so far. In this screenshot i happen to be in Picasa, but it seems to always be during different software usage, nothing consistent that i can tell

it starts distorting like this, and then after a few seconds or if i play around with laptop, it goes away

btw this is a lightly used 2012 MBP, 16gb of aftermarket RAM (could the chips be going bad??)
