V2 needs a better remote!

I'm going to preempt the launch of Take 2 (Next Tues???) and lodge my complaint that it's a pain typing in searches on that little ass Apple remote. Apple, we need a remote with a qwerty layout! I'll settle for some sort of T9 number keypad!!!! Or at a minimum, please let a third party develop one! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

In all seriousness, I don't anticipate searching for content to be very fun from the AppleTV itself - it takes me longer than it should right now just to find YouTube videos. I'll probably stick to the download and sync method for movies and shows.

I really can't wait for the gripe threads next week...Enjoy your weekend everybody!

Hmm, agreed. I can see their reasons for keeping the Apple remote, but at the very least I wished they would develop an interface for the iPhone.

Imagine adding Videos to the iTunes wifi store. You could browse, search them etc on the iPhone and buy them as you would music. It would bring up a popup saying "automatically download to Apple TV registered with this Apple ID?". Clicking yes would start it downloading to the Apple TV, no matter where you actually purchased on the iPhone.

One thing to bear in mind is that V2 has auto complete for films. Type TI and titanic would be first on the list so that you don't have to type in the rest of the word.

the iphone and touch are such obvious input devices for tv it makes my head hurt. it is also the perfect product tie in as people would be buying iphone/touch as an tv accessory or tv as touch/iphone accessory.

besides tv ui navigation, if they really opened up the wifi interface you could:

* stream audio from tv over wifi to touvh/iphone to use it as a wireless headphones
* embed events in the movies, youtube and tv shows to jump the iphone/touch safari to URLs

possibilities are endless

I really hate the ATV remote! There is a hack to use the iphone as a remote but i dont think you get any additional functionality.
