Thailand however should be fantastic in December. You can travel to Laos and Cambodia as well, which are also very interesting. If I were going on vacation in December that is exactly where I'd go.

The night boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (town next to Angkor Wat) is an incredible trip. One of the most beautiful river valleys in the world. Serene, and though there's light from villages on the banks, it's still dark enough to really see some stars.

Plus, Cambodians are very liberal about cannabis. Esp in the north near Siem Reap. I don't know how many motorcycle taxi guys would run up to me while I was walking down the street smoking a self rolled cigarette asking if I wanted marijuana. (Answer: Normally, yes, but not right now. I just ate a bunch of happy food and I gotta go find a place a sit down while I can still walk.)

I went to Kenya/South Africa a long time ago. It's such a cool experience being a part of such a different culture. The people in Kenya were so nice and hospitable, offering so much of the little they had when we dined.

My recommendation is that if you know anybody that can provide an authentic experience, that's the way to go. Of course, the safaris and other tourist spots were cool, but the strongest memories for me are the people I met and the conversations that took place.

Go on a cruise. Carnival Cruise Lines is great. There are a number of kids, my brother in university, things for adults to do like piano bar, great entertainment, and I know this is stereotyping a lot, but for older people they have bingo, special serenity decks for only adults/seniors. I reccomend getting a balcony! they make the cruise way more enjoyable. As for destination the Caribbean! Most Caribbean sailings have 3-4 ports on a 7 night cruise. Popular ports include: Grand Turk, ST. Thomas, San Juan, and often private islands the cruise line owns

BINGO!!!??? BINGO!!!???

A knife in my older person's heart. ;)

A cruise can be a very nice vacation. Just watch the caloric intake - it's bad for an elderly persons heart ;)

A cruise might be fun, but it's about the safest holiday you can have - waited on morning to night and bussed around on tours if you decide to get off.

If the OP has the opportunity to actually travel, there's a lot more interesting and challenging things to see out there.

If it's only a week, I suggest Bermuda.

It's off season, except for Christmas/New Years, and you can get 3 day bus passes and rent a scooter for the other 3-4 days. There are enough sights to explore, and the island is only ~23 miles long.

Worked for us, but that was in January, so the weather was in the high 60s low 70s.

My family is trying to decide where to vacation over winter break (month of december) for a week or two. We live in the middle of the U.S. and want to go out of the country, which would be a first for us (besides Mexico once)

We consist of two parents and two boys and two girls (all four kids in college)

Some of my siblings want to go to Australia, but I'm opposed to this because I feel there are much better places to visit during a once in a lifetime trip.

I'm fighting for somewhere in Europe bc of the historical sites and close proximity of many countries.

Please help us!

thanks.

Once in a lifetime you say? New Zealand. Hands down. I can't wait to go back. There is literally something for everyone there. Milford Sound, Abel Tasman, Mt. Cook, Fox Glacier, I could go on and on. Its an amazing place and I hope to live there someday.
