To everyone saying I have "mixed" it up, please actually read my post.

My guess is the coating. The sport screen will be nicer to look at than the SS, but there should be no real difference between two SSs

I'm saying that you would notice a difference between a sport and SS, but you shouldn't notice a difference between two SSs.

I wanted to update and thank everyone for the responses!

And to clarify, absolutely, these were both SS watches.

I am definitely returning it.

On brightness level 1, the two watches were very similar.

However, on level 2 and 3, it was almost like this new one with sport strap didn't even increase brightness, at least not to the level that the other watch increases with each step up.

I'm just not sure I will ever win the lottery and get a good one again (like my family member has).

Wish me luck and thanks again!

Isn't the display brightness massively influenced by the ambient light sensor, regardless of the brightness you set?

Variation Between Apple Watch Displays

Bumping this as I know members who were interested and asking for a link to this thread. (I use tapatalk so can't just post the link)

----------

This happens with all of Apples products.

Because of the large volume of sales, Apple needs to have multiple suppliers of displays, and multiple locations of manufacture.

This is going to cause a wide variance in quality.

If you don't think yours is right, play the lottery and exchange.

My SGS's display is very bright on max, and the colours are very rich. The Crown also spins freely, maybe a little too freely.

Only real issue I've had is the Force touch can be hit and miss, but that's most likely software.

They should all be the same quality for the money you pay, you make it sound like its normal and should just accept it. . People should not settle for anything less than what they deserve.

It is normal, and there's nothing that can prevent it. Can't accept it? Don't buy electronics, clothes, shoes, etc. they will all vary from plant to plant, day to day. That's manufacturing.

There's a variation and then there's complete differences. If having a screen that is drastically inferior to another is due to "a different supplier" then apple needs to get rid of said supplier and customers should return their watches. NOT accept it.

Can you take a photo of the differences? I don't see how the blacks would be different on an AMOLED display...as black is off - no light coming through...

If it's out of spec you exchange/return it.

So similar to your story OP I started off with the sport and moved to the classic and boy the SS watch is way way nicer.
