I took up computing at school but the only programming language we learned was VB.net, now its summer holidays and i want to learn to make iPhone apps.

I bought a book that is supposedly for beginners but is constantly refering to Objective C 2.0 and using terms i dont understand :(

Can anyone help me with the differences between VB and Xcode and the basics and how they work?

    thanks in advance,

VB is a language. XCode is an IDE. It's pretty much impossible to explain differences between them as they have nothing in common.

I assume you really mean between VB.net and Objective-C/Cocoa Touch (language and API). At a basic level they share language concepts, but not syntax, implementation details or much else. Learn C, then Objective-C then Cocoa Touch. If you can already program you should be able to pick C up quite quickly...

Wow, I was exactly in your shoes about a month ago. :p

I was able to find a great ebook that teaches Objective-C right from the beginning. You could probably skim through it and learn the new syntax and all that.

    Right Click and Download

That isn't written with iPhone programming in mind, but it should get you on the right track. ;)
