So basically all the data, the stuff you work on goes on the slow drive so that you can put stuff on the SSD for shaving a few seconds off the boot time, and a couple of microseconds when loading an app?

Yet the majority of I/O is interaction with the data? So lets say you have this huge Aperture library, now it will be on the slow drive? Think about it.

Makes no sense.

I have a Velociraptor 600GB.

Apps pop open immediately, Things are very fast and working on my user data is very quick.
You can move the libraries to the SSD, as they will load faster (presuming there's sufficient space and not cut into the unused capacity necessary for proper wear leveling functions - ~20% for most, 10% on an Intel). It's data that will fill up space as you go on or is re-written often that you want to get on the Velociraptor.

Yeah, I actually share your philosophy... put as much on the fastest drive you have... SSDs if at all possible. Leaving your main working files on slower mechanical drives is not buying you much.

BTW, I'd be remiss without mentioning this... :p ...even though things feel immediate and quick now, you really don't know the true meaning of instantaneous and fast until you work on a system with an SSD :D

It's definitely more than a few microseconds difference between an SSD and a 7200 rpm drive haha.

And you could always put two drives in a RAID 0, then everything will be faster, that's what I'm doing.
