Ventura – Can’t Move User Folder to External Drive..?

Can anyone confirm that this is true? There’s no option for it under System Settings > Users & Groups. My install is pointing to the Macintosh HD > Users > Spetznatz folder. Have they moved the option or removed it altogether..?

It's still there but a little more hidden in Ventura.

In System Settings > Users & Groups do a Control-Click on a user, for "Advanced Options". Authorize and scroll down a bit to find a button to change the location of the Home Directory.

Thanks, my Home folder location has transferred through several macOS upgrades, since there was an explicit ‘Advanced’ button in Users & Groups… in Ventura, I was horrified to see that it actually was pointing at my external Home folder, but Ventura simply wasn’t mounting it in the Finder… gone back to Monterey, now…

It is not working for me... The ok button on the restart message does not work. And it hangs, cannot even close system preferences... Does not let me restart manually either... I can open a terminal and restart using the sudo shutdown -r now command, but when it comes back it does not apply the changes. Any ideas?

It's not your [entire] user folder that should be moved to an external drive.

That works best when left on the same drive the OS resides on.

What CAN be moved are the "large libraries" INSIDE OF your home folder.

Such as the "Movies" folder, etc.
