I'm trying to get a VM going with Ventura on Ventura. I went to the App Store and commenced the download. The D/L completed but it's not in the Downloads folder. Where is the image? Anyone know?

The Applications folder just has the stub that's 39.6Mb. If I try to create a bootable drive with that, I get the "Install macOS Ventura.app does not appear to be a valid OS installer application." error.

If you are doing this on an Apple Silicon Mac, you'll probably want to use something like VirtualBuddy, in which case you'll want to download the .ipsw files that you get from Apple Configurator. You can use Apple Configurator to download the latest (though, I'd say going to Mr. Macintosh's site to use his links to where it's stored on Apple's site is easier; there's also ispw.me).
If you are doing this on an Intel Mac, then you'll want to use VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop (both of which currently only support macOS VMs on Intel Macs...at least for now). In which case, a simple trip to the Mac App Store will queue up the download for the latest installer app. Just keep the installer app in your Applications Folder and Fusion/Desktop will know what to do with them when you're creating the VM.
