When I go to update an app, after entering my password I get a popup that says
"Verification Required. Before you can make purchases you must tap Continue to sign in, then verify your payment info."

Tapping continue takes me to a page titled: Edit Account Information where it shows my name and billing address. It then says
"Paypal is not supported on this device. To manage or change your payment method, go to itunes on the computer."

I haven't made any changes to my billing method, and don't want to, therefor I don't understand why I'm getting this message. In the meantime, my appstore icon shows 6 updates, and I can't get any of them.

Deleting the app and redownloading it seems to stop it from showing that I need to download an update. Is there any fix for this that doesn't require me to redownload all the apps that come up for an update?

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer.

Some quick background:
Since i bought it, I hadn't been able to sync my iphone with my pc because it said it wasn't authorized, although it most certainly was. So then the other day a new version of itunes came out, I downloaded it and completed a successful sync.

One other detail:
I have an alternate itunes account, Canadian for when games are released to canada first. But i've only ever gotten two apps this way, and I've never had an issue before. Trying to update the offending apps through that account doesn't work.

This has happened to me several times recently even though I've updated my payment info already. I'm not sure if this is due to the recent hack attacks that the iTunes store suffered but it is quite annoying. I normally update apps through my MBP so this isn't a huge issue. But I can't seem to update apps over the air without this issue popping up.

In response to the recent iTunes account hacks, Apple is requiring that you type your credit card's security code the first time you make a purchase on a new device. I'm not using PayPal with my iTunes account, so I'm not sure how it works with PayPal.

I guess it only affects the iPhone. I did not receive this message on my iPad.

I was getting this last week on three different iPhones. This week, it seems to have stopped. It was getting annoying because it would take turns and pop up on each phone.

This was happening to me. I called apple and they said it is ok. confirm the information.

this was about 2 weeks ago. Nothing bad has happened yet....

This has been happening to me every few days on my iPhone 4, my card details are valid as I buy lots of Apps, it still keeps pestering me to Verify my account though

It happened to me also.
I think iTunes detects when you try to log in to your account on different platforms and asks you to verify your account each time you use a new platform.
I accessed my account from my brother's laptop, I was asked for a verification when I tried to update my apps.
I accessed my account from my 2G iPhone and was asked for verification the 1st time around and yesterday, it happened with the iPhone 4. It's a one time thing for new devices you use to access your account, i guess.

Update: the problem is fixed. Just posting solution to possibly help others.

After trying countless things on the iphone, I eventually gave up. Then the other day I happened to download an app on my ipad. It prompted me to verify the account, and then all was good again on my iphone. I should have tried the ipad earlier but just didn't think of it.

i had the same issue, called the phone support and got no help. Then I figured it out on my own.

I just logged onto different iTune accounts I have in the family that are sharing apps, and entered/verified my billing info on each, then it works! I guess your having multiple iTune accounts is the same nature. The computer just needs to recognize and verify the different iTune accounts you have. It worked fine for me ever since.

Nothing works

All I have is 1 Phone 4. No iPad.
I do not have multiple iTunes accounts.
I've tried re-entering credit card info on my phone, on iTunes, and nothing... Just can't figure out how to have this fixed!

I posted this is another thread.

Try this:

I had the same problem and I found an easy fix. Go into settings on your Iphone 4 and then go to the Store Tab. Sign out. Then Sign back in. This should now enable you to update your apps. Strange and frustrating quirk, but a rather easy fix. At least it worked for me.

verification required - iphone 3gs

I had this same problem when mine was updated to version 4.1.

This worked for me: I retyped my credit card details and the security number required, clicked done and apps responded positively.

Maybe it's something that's happening to people with more than one iTunes account because I have 2 and the exact same thing happened to me. However, I never found a solution for it because no matter how many times I verified my payment information it would not go through, so I just updated my apps on my MBP, synced the iPhone and called it a day.

That does seem to be the only solution if you have two accounts.

This remains a problem for me because I only use PayPal to pay for iTunes purchases.

I wrote to Apple about this, and the iTunes store rep who replied to me ASKED ME TO SEND A PICTURE OF MY CREDIT CARD TO HIM VIA EMAIL!

I'm not kidding — he really asked that. I replied that a) I don't use a credit card for iTunes purchases, and b) there is no chance in hell that I would send him a picture of my credit card via email.

He replied that he would look into the matter further and would "be in touch."

That was a week ago, and I've heard nothing since.

Makes me wonder if the recent PayPal-iTunes thefts were an inside job.

Make sure that all of your billing info is entered correctly. I tried logging in and entering my security code a hundred times before realizing my phone number has been entered incorrectly at the very bottom.

one of my solution

this problem came to me like 3 day ago(18 march 2011), i tried the "log off" method, but only work on my Imac's itunes, i was still having problem updating App with my iphone 3gs by using 3G network.
and because i'm using the same account with me Imac itunes and iphone itunes, so i log off both itunes and then update some app with my iphone.
finally everything work perfectly.

hope this work for you.

iPad 2 - Not Accepting Payment of PayPal in Store

Hello all,

I had the same problem as all of you for the past week or so. Little did I know that the problem was an EASY FIX. For me, I don't keep any money in my PayPal Account ... instead, I use my PayPal Account to Purchase things online and then PayPal pulls the Money from my Credit Card.

Apparently, this does not work on the iPad. When you're connected to the iTunes Store on the iPad ... you'll need to have money in your PayPal Account or change Payment Method directly to Debit/Credit Card.

To change the Payment Settings (would not let me do so on my iPad - frozen) ... you'll need to connect to your computer. Change your Payment Methods within iTunes and BOOM, you're gonna be fixed on your iPad.

Hope you find this helpful, email with any questions :D
