Out of curiosity how do you use all that data? What company are you with? The only comparable to that price is WIND but it sucks and they throttle you after 10gb.

He is with Verizon Wireless (a USA carrier). Unlimited data is no longer offered though, probably due to customers like him ;)

ahh, thank you. Wind would be good but it only works within various parts of the city and if you leave the city you pay roaming to rogers -_- My current plan is just AWFUL $25 for unlimited text, 150 minutes, free weekend+after 6pm no data..no caller id..no mms...

We upgraded in an Apple store on launch day and was not given this option. We had to lose our unlimited and were given 2 gigs for 30, 5 gigs for 50, etc to choose from.

Trying to decide if we should call and inquire about this.

Your usage is just going to go up. Eventually we are not even going to have voice minutes. It's all going to be data. Voice is just going to be VOIP via LTE and you just have data. So while you may not use a lot now tech changes and none of these changes are likely to lower your data usage. Yeah, $700 for a new iPhone sucks. But upgrade every year and your net cost isn't much higher than subsidized customers.

I agree with others that smartphone internet usage has been going up year after year.

LTE is supposed to be much higher capacity and lower cost to maintain for carriers so both Verizon and ATT see limiting data as their only option for profit margins.

I own both ATT and Verizon stock. The smartphone market is very saturated in the USA. Going from 5% to 50-60% in 5-6 years was tremendous growth. But it's slowing down big time cause consumers are tired of having to pay for home internet and smartphone internet. Average per line cost with Verizon is about $50. Verizon stopped reporting average revenue per line because consumers were getting smart and putting flip phones on lines 4 and 5 with no data but still using the subsidy upgrade to by the nice new shiny Android or iPhone and quickly putting the flip phone back on the line and deleting the data.

Let's see. Get a $450 subsidy for iPhone. Keep $10 extra line up for grandpa and use with flip phone. Line 4 or 5 generates $240 for 2 years yet Verizon just gave a $450 subsidy.

The post paid carriers are their own worst enemy. They want subscribers. But most Americans are on family plans.

Thus the reason for limiting data usage and trying to move people to "share everything or mobile sharing plans" to combat against the flip phone line $10/line with no data.

It's a typical money scam by Verizon. I highly doubt they want us to get away from unlimited because it's taxing their system. They are more than happy to sell you wifi hotspot for an extra $30 a month with your unlimited data plan. So someone could easily use their computer everyday connected to the hotspot and drop cable internet and save money. If their system was slowing down, they sure wouldn't allow unlimited folks to add wifi hotspot. They simply want us to switch to a fixed data plan to generate more money.

IMO, prepaid is the way to go for mobile hotspots for those that need them. Needing internet on the go for those who travel frequently for work, it is more convenient to pay 35 bucks for 3.5gb on something like T-Mobile where you get an average of 8-10mb down in urban areas as opposed to 30 ($20 for line access + $10 for 2gb bump on data plan) and a 2 year commitment for something you typically don't need every month.

I agree with your other points. VZW could care less about their customers and at times are downright nasty on the phone. There is a reason why they are no longer the leader in market share.

You can add and remove wifi hotspot at will with the unlimited data plan on verizon and it's prorated to the days you actually have it. When i go on vacation, I add it prior, and remove it when I get back. Great for when you have an ipad or laptop with you on the road, as hotel free wifi is usually horrendous.

Are you referring to the data only plan enabled on your phone as a mobile hotspot, or an actual mobile broadband that you get for free with a 2 year contract?

Hotspot on phone.

Ah, I was referring to an actual broadband which offers greater flexibility and more connected devices without compromise.

I've used both and there is no comparison between a T-Mobile prepaid MBB and using a phone as a mobile hotspot.

Don't bother switching to that plan. Just add a ghost line (pay $9.99 per month for that line) and use the phone that you activate for that line for your UD line and put a dumb phone on that ghost line.

Verizon 6gig plan for $30/mo

Heads up, maybe already posted but I just did this after a friend told me about it.

If you had an unlimited plan before and were forced to switch to the 2gig plan, you can call up Verizon and ask them to give you 6gig/mo for the price of 2gig/mo. They don't advertise this and most agents probably don't even know. I had to be on hold about 10min while they checked on it, but eventually she found the right info and I was good to go.

It's called something like Verizon Max or Edge and they applied it for iPhone switchers going to a new plan. You may have to fight for it, but insist it's possible until you get it. Even if you switched your plan they said since I was in my 14 day window it was fine.

I barely use 2gig a month but it's nice to know I have the headroom.

She first started telling me that I would need to pay full price for the phone for it to work like that, but I kept pushing and got it.

Cheers! :)

So what did you end up saying? I was having a hard time getting the Verizon max / 6gb plan added.

I just chatted with someone and they said the only way that this was possible is if I added that Edge program where you pretty much lease your phone.

Any help would be great :D I just upgraded 4 days ago

I am thinking the EXACT same thing! especially considering I never had issues staying under 2GB with my old Android LTE phone but in the last 7 days I have used 1.5GB of data on my iphone and still have over 2 weeks left in the billing cycle. Though I am still trying to figure out how I used this much data, I hate having a 2GB cap

I called twice two different reps and have been told both times that the 6 gig plan doesn't exist. Don't know what to think.

Dont bother trying this is you are still on an old Alltel plan that had unlimited data. It is just for those who had a Verizon unlimited data plan. It is still cheaper to be on the Alltel right plan than a verizon plan but you still lose your unlimited data and are pushed into the 2GB max, the only perk is that is isnt a shared 2GB, everyone on the plan gets their own.

Still sucks. Verizon Sucks. Cell providers in general rape the public.

I just called and it exists and she was ready and eager to put me on it cause I am in the 14 day window of upgrade, but she couldnt cause I had an old Alltel unlimited plan instead of a verizon unlimited.

Also, just reference the email that was posted above about it. Say "I received an email about the Verizon Max option after I ordered my iphone and would like to be put on it instead of the 2gb cap" and because you are int he 14day window of receiving your phone they will put you on it- as long as you are a verizon unlimited customer not an Alltel unlimited or someone who previously switched last year to a share everything plan

Nope. Not an Alltel plan. Have been with Verizon for nearly a decade. And right now I'm feeling like they are being shady with me.

This has already been mentioned in this thread, but for those of you who are considering this, do you understand that you will no longer have the regular upgrade option, this is for the Verizon Edge plan where you are "leasing" the phone?

Did you call this number 800.723.9195? or your local? Try that number- it is the one from the email above

No it is not. You do NOT need to go to a verizon edge plan to get this! This is a regular 2 year contract plan with normal upgrade terms.

Yes, it a regular plan they are only offering to Unlimited switchers. Just keep insisting it exists until they check on it. The rep I talked to assured me she didn't know anything about it. Just keep insisting till they check.

They will tell you that since it only applies to an unlimited plan and you switched over already, they need to do some tricks to get you back on the unlimited plan for like a day and then switch you over to the 6gig plan.

The rep later thanked me for staying on top of it so when other people call about it she now knows what to do.

What was your reps name, I want to get her! I am struggling with the process..

6GB for $30 is a better deal than 2GB for $30, but that's not saying much.

They'll have to pry my unlimited LTE out of my cold, dead hands. If they drop unlimited completely when they start rolling VoLTE out, I'll be taking my 5 lines to another carrier after 11 loyal years.

I'm sure each carrier will have different offers in the next 12-24 months than they do now, but T-Mobile is sounding like a pretty good deal. $70 for a single unlimited everything account. Their LTE performance seems pretty comparable to VZW on average and my area has very good coverage.
