Carrier Verizon 5c or 5s on MetroPCS?

I know the Verizon iPhone 5s and 5c are fully unlocked, however a friend wants to keep their Metro service and get an iPhone. If they get the Verizon model from Apple, will anything else need to be done in order to get it working? If so, what needs to be done?

Will the Verizon model be able to use LTE from Metro or should they just get a T-Mobile version of the phone?
