So I've been on the fence of whether I want to spend the extra $ on an iPhone 12 especially with the disappointing leaks, and I'm fairly content with what the 11 pro max already offers.

I currently have an iPhone 8 plus, but I'm running out of memory and the charge port seems to be failing (both at charging and playing music via dongle).

Anyway...
I'm on Verizon and if I trade in my phone I'd qualify for $850.00 in Verizon credits over 24 months.
Which I figured would greatly help cut the cost of choosing to upgrade now. Not sure if this will be sustained when the 12 releases or if this is just to get rid of the current stock of older iPhones.

Just looking for opinions on the matter.

It sounds like they want to move remaining stock in preparation for the iPhone 12’s. That sound like a good deal. I was going to take advantage of it but went with the SE 2020 for $0 down and $16.66 in bill credits over 24 months. Il

Can anyone answer this question: After you get a deal like this can you use another phone on the same line and retain the promotional price with the bill credits?

I joined Verizon and got the SE 2020 for $0 down and $0/month ($16.66 in bill credits for 24 months). I have an unlocked XS Max that I’m now using on Verizon. Hopefully I still get my bill credits because I’ll be upgrading to the 12 Pro Max.

I think as long as you buy the iPhone 12 unlocked from Apple outright, your credits should be okay.

You have to add a new line, and upgrade for that deal. I don’t know what the upgrade means when you add a new line.

Yeah, I read the fine print, not sure if it's worth the hassle adding another line.
Guess I'll chance it with waiting a bit longer!

That’s exactly what I’m going to do. This’ll be the first time I buy outright from Apple. At least I won’t have to deal with the hassle of unlocking my phone again. T-Mobile was giving me the run around to unlock my XS Max.

I’m not positive I understand what you’re asking, so if I don’t answer correctly, I apologize, but I know on AT&T if you do the promo line/discounts, you can put any SIM in that device (AT&T of course) and/or put that SIM in another device, and it’s fine. As long as you don’t cancel the line for the number of months required, you’re good.

For instance, I got my grandson an XR for $1/month with a new line of service (which I’d have had to get no matter what since he didn’t have a line yet). It was too big a phone for him, and a good friend of ours was looking for an XR, so she bought an SE 2 from Apple with no SIM, gave that to my grandson, we put his SIM into the SE 2, she put her AT&T SIM in the XR, and I’m still just paying $1/month (plus the service of course).

Thank you Soooo..... much for taking the time to answer the question. That is EXACTLY what I was talking about and I have AT&T too. Thank you

Personal opinion, I prefer Verizon PrePay and to own my phone outright. If you can’t afford outright, Apple Card offers 0%APR on Apple products. You'd likely pay less per month even after paying month to month for the phone due to plans being much cheaper.

I'm considering swapping to Verizon prepaid from their postpaid service, simply for the cost savings. Online I've read that data performance can be subpar compared to postpaid, but I'm on the lowest tier unlimited and that is subject to deprioritization all the time. I use anywhere between 3-8 gb per month. How's your service been?

A note on Apple Card payments, the fine print says you must activate that phone on one of the national postpaid carriers in order to quality for 0% financing. Monthly pricing: Available to qualified customers and requires 0% APR, 24-month installment loan with Citizens One or Apple Card Monthly Installments and iPhone activation required on purchases made at an Apple Store with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon.

I've purchased a few iPhones outright in the past and the savings that be had coupled with a prepaid/MVNO can = 30%-50% of the phone cost in one year. If you can afford to go this route and find a provider that meets your needs, do it!

My service is 99% of the time really good. I pay for the 3GB plan and just add more if I use it all which happened once in several years on a road trip. I do have a dead zone on a road close to my local Walmart but interesting enough, I have no issues in Walmart itself so I think its just a dead zone not a priority throttle.

As far as Apple Card, that was the case with a carrier being required but they opened it up to anyone buying a phone. I know because I did it just to see if it worked then paid it off right after I got it. I’ll screenshot me doing it with an 11 pro max with sim free option to show you.

I pay $65 after taxes for 2 lines and 3GB on each line (data is not shared if prepaid accounts are linked).

Yes you’re able to. I’ve already received a bill credit for month 1 while I’m using my XS Max. I plan to hold onto the SE as another backup phone along with my XS Max. Someone in my house may need to use the backup phones while waiting on a replacement.

Since you are keeping your phone for a bit longer, I would suggest cleaning out the Lightning port on your phone. That should take care of your connection issues.
