Global issue solved, however problems still exist....it is still CDMA here in the US.

-Slow.
-Lack of data/voice multitasking.

Smartphones crave speed and multiple, concurrent voice/data tasks. CDMA just can't support it.

You forgot :

nyaah, nyaaah, nay nyaayah.

Can you please give your dad his computer back?

Little kids shouldn't be on adult forums.

LOL that's pretty much what Apple is doing right now: nyaah nyaah nyaah. If they would stop filing whiny lawsuits, maybe I would respect them again.

My father was killed in war, thanks. And I'm no little kid.

This Verizon guy just crushed the sales potential of the current model. What an idiot. I'm sure Apple isn't too happy either.

This makes little sense. If the chip really was global, why would Apple sell two models of the ipad 2 3G? It seems the ATT version could be enabled to work on the Verizon network... It seems anyone buying the Verizon edition is getting scammed...

The chip (Qualcomm MDM6600) really is global, that much we know. Whether Apple takes advantage or enables both gsm and cdma in one model we don't know.

For whatever reason the iPad 2 continued to use the same Infineon chip for gsm that the previous gsm iPhone did. Maybe it was easier/cheaper to acquire large quantities of those chips than the newer qualcomm.

What does this tell us about HSPA+ on the next gen iPhone?

It doesn't necessarily say anything about hspa+, but I think its a very real possibility.

So it's okay for every Tom, Dick, and Harry to sue Apple over anything and everything but when Apple sues somebody, well, that's another story. That's evil. Do you even realize how stupid a post like that is? However, looking at your history here, it's no wonder. You joined in May 2010 and have made less than ten posts since then, all of them bashing Apple. Your user name implies you are an old Mac user from way back. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Wow... the animosity towards VZW is simply mindblowing. Do most of you love AT&T that much?

Me? I could care less.

Anyone that thinks that Apple is going to drop VZW because of this is an idiot. Apple is not going to drop VZW for this.

If the chip is there .. Could it be enabled with software Mods?

Well, currently only the verizon iPhone 4 and verizon iPad 3G have this chip. First off they'd need a sim card to function on a gsm network. And I'm sure they also don't have any antennas which would be needed as well.

Could you really?

This would have been a great move when they released the iphone 4 on Verizon. This fall, if that is when the next phone is released, it feels late to the game. LTE is the emerging feature of interest and will theoretically will work globally as it rolls out as a global standard, likely over quite a few years and certainly not without plenty of hiccups.

Apple's iphone strategy is feeling sluggish. Maybe that's just because they were previously way out in front, and now they appear to be more in line with the competition. iOS5 needs to really up apple's iphone game, that's for sure.

I hope this is true, particularly concerning the iPads. Having 18 different models to stock makes it a wee bit complicated to get the right balance.

yes it would only be 9, which is so much less confusing!

Check your math.

2 colors X 3 sizes X 2 Radio types (wifi and cell + wifi)

Comes out to 12 SKUs

Okay, so you are what, 18?

Your comments and postings are kid-like.

To call something crappy that sold 108 million units and was a game changer for smart phones shows a questionable thought process.

If you don't like something, you may want to say that you prefer a Thunderbolt over an iphone because.....

That would make for a discussion.

You also have no knowledge about how lawsuits work and why it is important that Apple protects it's inventions.

Every lawsuit stands on it's own. Apple will lose some and win some.
Lawsuits have to be non emotional.

Apple is not whining when they are being sued.

You are missing a lot of experience in the world young friend. It shows:)

Be good and keep learning and travel the world with your Thunderbolt.

All the best!

PS: I don't see what your father's death has anything to do with Apple and iphones. Is that supposed to make us feel that you are older?

They could make it even simpler by selling one "size" and allowing people to pop in their own memory as there needs grow over time. I just added memory to a GPS by popping in a finger-nail sized flash chip.

There's easily room to accomidate it in any existing iX design - the limitation appears to me about Apple's desire to rake in an extra $100 cash (mostly profit) for each size upgrade.

Maybe we could start respecting you when you realize it's not as simple as 'filing a whiny lawsuit'; there's a myriad of factors that back it.

From Verizon's perspective, it may not be that much of an admission. The radio in their current phone is already global, so they could be talking about as little as a firmware change in the next revision.

May not seem like that big of a deal, although I'd be interested to see compared sales of their world phones versus CDMA only. Doesn't seem like the Droid Pro did too well.

What does this tell us about HSPA+ on the next gen iPhone?

Nothing. The chipset is capable, but there's no indication will give a crap about AT&T's interim '4G' solution.

Is the AT&T / Verizon iPad 1 sku (in the sense of them being the same model)?
