I can't say I wouldn't have been one of them. I REALLY wanted that phone. The thought of having it in my hand and then having to turn it over would have really hurt me. It's not as if all of them were blowing up. :(

The phone has a defect that could potentially put not only the owner's lift at risk, but also others. I saw some jerk standing in the middle of a massive crowd in a tight space toting about how "he beat the system" and got to keep his... really nice.

idgaf if you love your phone or the phone you want isn't in stock, it's stupid and reckless to hold on to your device at this point. Even more stupid to try and keep your phone, which has a significant flaw, from updating.

Why would someone continue to use a device that's likely to burn down your house/car/work? Imagine someone gets killed, you get charged with negligent homicide?

It would be very unlikely that would happen.

Needing to call 911 because your phone has burst into flames... I'd call that "irony" but someone would jump down my throat saying I don't know what irony means.

Just send a modal alert with an OK button to these devices that says "I agree that if I kill myself or others due to the fact I still use this phone, then I alone am liable". You click OK and it's saved off somewhere remote. Liability transferred.

Liability from the others that might be killed would not be transferred. Also it would be the users estate who might end up bringing the claim so it might not even help for the original user.

You can't buy a publicity like this!

I had a note 7. I was still using it after the recall. Say what you want about the decision, but it was mine to make. I probably would have held out for an s8 or note 8. When Samsung forced the Kill update, I did stop using the phone. I was also angry enough that I returned a 4k Samsung monitor I'd bought over black friday week after about 10 days of use even though I loved the monitor.

If I buy an item that is recalled, I still own the item and can choose to keep it or not. Samsung deliberately destroying my device is like breaking into my house and taking back a recalled appliance. How is that even legal?

So since I went from being a Samsung customer to never again will I buy a Samsung product, it's not good publicity. If I were a Verizon customer, i'd be cancelling them today.

Did the recall make it illegal to own one? Can one be arrested for possessing one?

You could be charged in an airport, so yes. You can be arrested technically.

Do you think someone walking around with a bomb is okay? (Not referring to the note, an actually explosive)

In an airport or on a plane?

Go to craigslist and there are folks selling these things at a premium. And there are folks looking to buy them that seem like resellers. I think there are plenty of people who will take the "risk" in order to use a cutting edge and kind of "dangerous" phone. It is a conversation piece, no doubt about that.

Since this whole thing started I wondered why the telcom companies didnt just start blocking the IMEI #'s for these devices. I know they cant block calls because of emergency calls to 911, but at least data connectivity. And why can't they just say after x amount of days from the recall even cell calls will be denied to these devices, so if you wish to continue to have a usable phone then go get it replaced.

Americans are some of the most backward thinking people I ever encountered. First guns and now this. Lmao

ITS IN MY CONSTITUTION!!!

Shut up

So less than a week ago. Times they are a-changin.

IMO, they shouldn't lift the ban. I know they aren't going to make the announcement forever, but there will always be a few people who will think nothing of bringing one with them on a plane.

They will upgrade the first time they try to fly with those phones. Every Flight I have taken this year ( and there has been a lot of them) they have announced that the Galaxy Note S7 is not allowed on the aircraft.

I took the amtrak about a month ago, and there was a sign posted saying that note 7 phones are banned. Glad I'm on the note 4 still.
