I have an iPhone 4S on Verizon. I have switched upgrades with other family members on my plan, and long story short I won't be able to get an upgrade until June 29th, 2015 :/. How can I sign up for Verizon Edge (once its out) so I am able to get the newest smartphone? Can I just sign up whenever, or do I have to wait until my two year contract is done /:? thanks

I'm with OP on this one. I am waiting for the 5S to come out, and I will be signing up for Edge. I want the iPhone 6, especially if the rumors of a larger screen are true. I would rather sign up for Edge than buy the 5S off contract (I can't really afford to buy it full retail). After I get the 6, I'll probably sign a contract.

If you like to change your phone often and can't afford to pay full retail every time, then this is the plan for you.

Unlimited data customers also get to keep their data packages with edge.

Only two reasons why you should use this plan.

Every six months you could switch phones as long as you have paid off half of the phone.

How would we know? Here's what's available from Verizon:

Why would you want to do that. That plan is just pure rip off.
Why would you assume that everyone's assessment of it is identical to your own? If you think it's a rip off don't use it. Others can and do perceive it differently. Pretty much like anything else out there.

Companies like this make a killing off of people who don't know how to save or are unwilling to do so. I am not saying this to be rude or discriminatory, but it's the simple truth. I am not sure in what world it makes more sense to pay off 50% of the retail value of a phone and then just "throw it away" to start again with another, but to each their own. You literally come out ahead buying for full retail and then selling your "old" phone when you are ready for a new one, at least speaking of iPhones based on past resale values.

because I don't want to have the 4S for almost two more years. /:

Sell your 4S on Craigslist, then buy an iPhone 5 from Craigslist.

Idk where you live, but where I'm at cdma 4S sells for ~$250. You can buy a used iPhone 5 for $375~$450, so you'll only be spending about $200 bucks out of pocket.

Dude, do the math. Verizon edge is a pure rip off.

There are lots of people who will never sell a cell phone. They just hold on to them. Collect dust.

If you keep the phone for a year, then it's not a rip off. It's just financing the phone with no interest charges.

Have you even done the math on Verizon Edge?

If you get a top of the line phone from them (GS4/i5/Note/etc), you pay $27 on top of your plan. It makes no financial sense to do that, upgrade every 12 months, and give them your phone.

It is a rip off because you are not getting discount on your monthly bill from buying the phone full price. If verizon sells you a phone yearly at the subsidized price only or lowers your monthly bill since you aren't taking the subsidy, then it's worth it. Otherwise, it's a rip off since you are paying for the phone twice.

These are decisions people can really only make for themselves, but how you justify paying the subsidized contract rates on a phone that you're paying retail for is beyond me.

Why would you give them the phone if its paid off in a year? By then it's yours. They split the cost of the phone over twelve monthly payments.

You think Verizon should lower the monthly service rate because the phone was not purchased with a subsidy? They have never done that. If you want to upgrade once a year you have to pay, if not then keep your phone for two years and get on a contract.

All the people that don't understand how much of a ripoff it is need to reat this.

I just read this. Good lord. Never mind what I said. This plans just plain sucks.

My contract with Verizon ends next month and I will still be paying the subsidy on my plan. They won't lower my bill since I've done my two years.

Kinda sucks that even though you bring your own device or buy it retail from Verizon your bi will still be the same price as if using a subsidy to purchase a phone.

Thank god I have excellent service or I would feel completely raped by Verizon.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I'm planning on possibly jumping to T-Mobile (from Sprint) once my contract is up next year.
